How do we prepare a new piano for delivery?

At Piano Centre Edmonton, we believe that every piano sold needs dealer preparation to ensure the highest level of quality, performance, and customer satisfaction. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the sale of a piano; it includes meticulous dealer preparation.

Dealer preparation is a vital step in the journey of a piano from manufacturer to customer. It involves a comprehensive set of tasks performed by our master technician to ensure that the instrument is in optimal playing condition. From grand pianos to uprights, each piano undergoes a series of checks and adjustments at the hands of our master technician before it is delivered to its new home.

While other dealers and manufacturers will claim that their pianos are “perfect out of the box” and are “Seasoned for the North American Market” we’ve got nearly 100 years of combined experience that KNOWS that the marketing fluff, is a HUGE departure from reality. The reality is this…

Northern Alberta has a VERY different climate than Vancouver or Toronto, and ANY piano, no matter who builds it, is going to undergo changes when it finds its way to our part of the world.

Which is why, when a client’s new piano arrives to us at Piano Centre Edmonton, the very first thing we do, is open the crate and get the piano breathing its first breaths of Northern Alberta air, and we leave it alone for a few days to settle in before undertaking the detailed and extensive pre-delivery preparation EVERY piano deserves.

One crucial aspect of dealer preparation is tuning. Our experienced technician tunes each piano several times during pre-delivery preparation. This ensures stability, and that it will play with flawless tonal clarity and correctness. We understand that a well-tuned piano is the heart and soul of any musical performance. Whether you are a beginner or an accomplished pianist, we want you to experience the joy of playing on a perfectly tuned instrument from the moment it arrives home.

After a couple of days of settling in, The piano goes onto its legs and we unlock the piano action and play the first few notes.

This is where we get our first impression of the new piano, and our technician identifies the steps he can take to ensure optimal performance in the home.

In addition to tuning, dealer preparation includes regulation. Regulation involves fine-tuning the mechanical aspects of the piano, such as the action, pedals, and keys, to ensure precise touch and response. Our technician addresses each component, adjusting and aligning them to meet the highest standards of playability. The result is a piano that responds effortlessly to the pianist's touch, enabling creativity and expression to flourish.

An average piano has anywhere between 8-12,000 moving parts, and while pains are taken to prepare a piano for transport, they are delicate. When they’ve travelled across the continent, or even the world to get to us, we know that we can make further adjustments to ensure optimal performance.
